HOTEL GOTHAM
Hotel Gotham is a 5-star, luxury hotel located at 100 King Street in central Manchester. The building is one of the city's grandest buildings which is a former premises of Midland Bank.
OUR WORK
Vision's brief was to design, supply and install the basement kitchen for what would become GILT, a new exclusive, underground function and event space located deep inside the former bank vaults of the building. GILT would be a speakeasy-style club following a major refurbishment of the vaults which included preserving original bank details and cleaning up the original tiling. The club was to be located in the vaults 2 floors below ground level. The space would be used as an exclusive entertainment venue as well as being available to hire out exclusively for private events. A private dining room would be located in one of the old bank safes which would cater for up to 20 people, offering tasting menus and wine menus by a private chef and sommelier. Further to this, the vault would also feature a beauty salon. The kitchen that Vision designed would service the private dining area as well as events taking place within GILT, with up to 80 covers.
OUR WORK
As the kitchen is located 2 floors below ground level, access was going to be a big challenge within this project. Therefore, equipment size was an important consideration in the design of this project as it would need to be able to fit down several flights of winding stairs. The equipment selected was due to it being high-spec and all electric. Due to the location of the kitchen being sub-basement (2 levels below ground), it wasn't possible to have a traditional extraction therefore we incorporated a Reco-Air unit which filters and cleans the air within the kitchen itself.
The amount of services needed to run through the ceiling became a challenge in terms of equipment selection, as there needed to be an optimum ceiling height to incorporate all the required services into the ceiling whilst also being able to accommodate the height of larger equipment such as upright refrigeration. The water and waste pipework also presented a challenge as they were from higher levels within the building.
OUR WORK
This was a prestigious project which took place within a listed building. The project was an interesting and challenging one due to the kitchen's location being 2 levels below ground amongst old bank vaults. Despite challenges with site access and services, the project was a huge success. Vision established a great working relationship with the builders on the project which meant we could work together to resolve the challenging issues and ensure that the finished project was of a very high standard befitting its location within a much revered 5-star hotel.

"We worked with Vision Commercial Kitchens for the first time on the GILT Club project at Hotel Gotham, Manchester. We found the whole experience from design to installation excellent and and really straight-forward. With a basic brief of '80 covers-banquet style', Vision Commercial Kitchens designed and installed the 'perfect' kitchen.
The kitchen for the event space is situated in the lower basement and it was a logistical nightmare for design and deliveries. The project had been in the pipeline since 2019 and Vision Commercial Kitchens were involved from the start within the kitchen design. When the scheme was finally given the go ahead in 2022, Vision Commercial Kitchens were on hand to jump straight back in. As the Hotel wanted the space ready for Christmas, we were up against it on time. Vision Commercial Kitchens' management of the project was exemplary and we managed to complete the project on time, to the utmost satisfaction of our client and the Hotel.
