Oakland Village in Swadlincote is a purpose-built extra care scheme designed to help residents live life to the full. Vision Commercial Kitchens was awarded the catering facilities package through a tender process in July 2012, with installation required by October.
Delivering to a fast-track programme
With just three months between tender award and installation, Vision worked to a demanding programme to complete the kitchen facilities. Despite the accelerated schedule, we maintained quality standards while ensuring the kitchen was fully operational by the client’s deadline.

Refining designs and adding value
Although initial designs were already in place, Vision was given the opportunity to alter and improve the kitchen flow. We advised on cost-saving alternatives where appropriate, providing value engineering without compromising on quality or performance.
Adapting to site conditions
By the time Vision began work, the site was already well advanced, with built walls, steelworks, and electrical trays in position. Our team adapted to the existing conditions, ensuring that the kitchen and equipment were installed smoothly and in full coordination with the construction programme.

A successful outcome for the client
The end user and client were extremely satisfied with the results. Following completion, they placed additional orders for sundries and a new server counter to support menu development.
The project also marked a milestone in Vision’s work within the care sector, demonstrating our ability to deliver high-quality catering facilities as care environments evolve into community spaces with retail-style food offerings.
