Vision Commercial Kitchens successfully delivered a bespoke takeaway coffee counter for Fortnum & Mason’s iconic Piccadilly store, further deepening a fifteen-year relationship built on trust, precision, and shared values. The project aimed to support Fortnum’s strategic push into the £4 billion takeaway coffee market while preserving their hallmark blend of heritage, elegance, and sustainability.

This new addition reflects the retailer’s ambition to reach a younger, more dynamic audience — from coffee connoisseurs to city workers and tourists — while upholding the exceptional quality expected from one of Britain’s most prestigious brands.

Premium Experience in a Compact Footprint

The design brief focused on visibility, flow, and brand cohesion. Situated next to the store’s main staircase, the counter needed to draw footfall, offer grab-and-go convenience, and reflect Fortnum’s refined customer experience.

Working closely with Fortnum & Mason’s hospitality team, we developed a compact layout with:

  • A separate order and collection point to improve flow

  • Dedicated standing space for takeaway customers

  • Seamless integration with surrounding retail displays

  • Full M&E provision including drainage, handwash, and refrigeration

Delivering modern functionality inside a Grade II-listed building presented additional constraints. The design had to work around an active fire curtain and avoid compromising the historical integrity of the staircase. Every element — from finishes to form — was developed in close consultation with Fortnum’s store development and design teams.

Flawless Installation in a Live Store Environment

The installation took place within a live retail environment, with all works carefully scheduled to avoid disruption. Hoarding was erected to cordon off the work zone, and deliveries were timed before opening hours. Vision was the final contractor on site, ensuring a smooth and efficient handover.

Key highlights:

  • Zero disruption to trading hours

  • Sustainable waste handling in line with Fortnum's protocols

  • Efficient sequencing of M&E works, counter install, and equipment delivery

  • Formal training provided for specialist equipment (Carpigiani soft serve)

The project was delivered on time, on budget, and with minimal disruption to operations.

"Vision Commercial Kitchens delivered a well-executed coffee counter for our Piccadilly store. The design integrates smoothly with our existing environment, and the installation process was efficiently managed, minimizing disruption. The quality of the equipment and the counter itself meets our operational needs." - Denise Boulton, Fortnum & Mason Lead Store Development Project Manager - UK & International
