Opheem, based on Summer Row in Birmingham, is the only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in the UK outside of London. Led by chef Aktar Islam, the restaurant combines progressive Indian cuisine with theatrical flair.
Vision Commercial Kitchens was tasked with redesigning the kitchen to reflect Opheem’s Michelin-star status and evolving menu, creating a space that would deliver both operational excellence and a striking guest experience.

Transforming the kitchen experience
The brief called for a complete removal of the previous kitchen and the design of a new layout that would enhance efficiency while opening the cooking process to diners. Vision’s design created a much more open-view kitchen, making the chefs’ work part of the dining experience.
3D visuals were produced to help the client visualise the new concept, ensuring the flow of the space aligned with both service requirements and Opheem’s ambitious style of presentation.

Design features and specification
The new kitchen features three central islands, a perimeter worktop, and a pass, maximising both workflow and visibility. Equipment specification was carefully matched to Opheem's menu and service style, delivering the performance required for a Michelin-starred operation. The open-plan design ensures diners are more involved in the experience, while the layout provides the chefs with a streamlined, ergonomic environment to work in.

Testimonial
"I have worked with Vision Commercial Kitchens for several years and their professionalism and ability to deliver on time and on budget is second to none. They understand the pressures of a working kitchen and ensure that everything runs smoothly. The team is fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend them."
– Aktar Islam, Chef Patron, Opheem
