The Cat’s Pyjamas is a new restaurant and bar in central Leeds serving Indian street food and craft beer. Vision Commercial Kitchens worked with founder Alison White to translate the concept into a practical, high-performing kitchen and servery. Explore the image gallery below for a closer look at the installation.

Brief & site constraints

Before any CAD work, Vision mapped the operation to determine the minimum kitchen size for peak covers. Converting a former shop presented early hurdles: no gas, minimal electrical supply and drainage issues. Vision scoped and coordinated the necessary M&E works so the kitchen could operate reliably within the building’s limitations.

Design for a tight shell: induction & extract

A low mezzanine created very limited ceiling height, so the cookline was positioned where headroom allowed and the extract strategy could work. To reduce heat and meet ventilation constraints, induction hobs replaced gas. The layout balances prep, cook and pass within a constrained footprint.

Open pass, late change & roll-out template

A prominent open pass brings theatre to the restaurant, evoking a bustling Indian city. A late requirement for a fire shutter was incorporated at the final stage without losing the design intent. The space planning proved so effective it became the template for future Cat’s Pyjamas sites.

Testimonial

"The design took a lot of planning and the installation schedule was tight but I am truly delighted with how it turned out. When I remember the space before works began I never thought we would be able to achieve the number of covers we now reach at peak times. And that's down to Vision." - — Alison White, Owner, The Cat’s Pyjamas
