PLANNED PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

WHAT IS PLANNED PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE?

Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is an integral part of looking after your kitchen equipment and minimising the chances of it breaking down. Commercial appliances should be serviced regularly in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and requirements. This ensures it complies with the warranty terms and conditions, as well as keeping it running efficiently and complying with legislation. Vision Commercial Kitchens offer a full PPM service to keep your equipment in the best working order and to ensure your business is compliant with current legislation.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE A PPM?

We assess your site, range of equipment and operation. This can vary greatly between different establishments. A site with 50 covers and a site with 1000 covers are two very different sets of circumstances and whilst some operations may require 1 service offer per year, others may require a very comprehensive service 3-4 times per year. We will provide, as part of our proposal, a recommendation of the number of service visits per year, by equipment category i.e. cooking appliances, refrigeration, warewashing etc.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PPM?

All equipment is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and specifications contained in the manufacturer's service manual for each piece of equipment. This means you remain compliant with warranty conditions. A primary condition of a manufacturer's warranty terms is that regular maintenance is undertaken in line with the manufacturer's user manual.

We undertake the following as standard on all appliances:

GAS EQUIPMENT

  • Stripped

  • Tightness tested

  • Vacuumed

  • Valves greased

  • Injectors cleared

  • Burners cleared

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

  • Inspected

  • All connections checked for tightness and remade if necessary

  • Safety and functionality is tested

  • Low-cost basic repairs are undertaken as required

REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT

  • Condensers cleaned to ensure they are clean and free from debris and dust

  • Fans will be checked and lubricated

  • Temperatures and thermostats checked and calibrated, where applicable

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A PPM IS COMPLETE?

Once our engineers have completed your PPM, we collate all information and present this to you in a number of ways:

ASSET LIST AND CONDITION REPORT

This is a schedule of all assets serviced on site along with a condition rating i.e. a condition of 1-5, with condition 1 as new, and condition 5 as in need of replacing. This document additionally has any engineer remarks observed during the PPM recorded and details of the works which were carried out to each piece of equipment during the PPM.

This enables you to keep a track of the overall condition of your catering equipment assets. This also aides in your compliance with regards to electrical safety, it shows that each appliance has been checked by an engineer, the condition it was found in and the date that this happened. If any appliance was found to be unsafe and couldn't be repaired straight away, it will be taken out of use and documented to protect you as a business.

CP42 GAS CERTIFICATION

An annual Gas Safety inspection is required for UK compliance. A CP42 certificate is the official term for a safety certificate that is issued annually by a registered Gas Safe Engineer to cover any gas appliances in your kitchen that have been serviced. These certificates specifically target commercial kitchen facilities. Vision Commercial Kitchens will issue a CP42 Certificate upon successful completion of a gas inspection. This certifies that the appliance(s) is safe, working correctly and that it has passed its annual gas safety inspection.

REMEDIAL QUOTATIONS

Should the engineer identify any remedial works as a result of the service visit, we will provide you with a quotation with our recommendations of works to be carried out.

For example, the engineer may have advised that the thermostat on your fryer is out of calibration, and is unable to be calibrated, and as such will require replacement.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

REMEDIAL WORKS FOLLOWING SERVICE VISIT

Once you give approval for any remedial works, we'll proceed to carry out any authorised repairs. Once those are complete, we're always available on the phone or via email should you need us. And when the time is right, we'll be back in touch to book in the next PPM, as per your service plan to keep your operation running as smoothly as possible.

EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWNS

It's always a possibility to have an unexpected equipment failure or breakdown. Vision Commercial Kitchens understand this and can react effectively, dealing with emergency call outs as soon as possible to minimise disruption during peak times. Vision will also log service calls, provide an ETA, keep a record of visits and follow up.

Your equipment may well be under warranty, in this case we will manage warranty calls with the specific manufacturer. However, if equipment is out of warranty, we're still here to help you and have a team of qualified service engineers ready to assist and get you back up and running as quickly as possible.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PPM?

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance will ensure that your equipment is kept in the best possible condition

  • Minimise breakdowns and prolong the life expectancy of the equipment

  • Often PPM will catch and resolve a potential inconvenient breakdown before it happens, meaning you maximise up time rather than suffer down time.
