Person Shaped Support (PSS) is a social enterprise based at Eleanor Rathbone House in Liverpool, supporting adults with learning or physical disabilities and mental health challenges. Vision Commercial Kitchens designed and installed a hybrid teaching kitchen that looks domestic but performs like a commercial workspace.
Brief: a teaching kitchen for real-world skills
The new kitchen was to help people learn to use equipment and practise meal preparation. It needed the familiarity of a home kitchen while standing up to frequent use in a training environment.
Design: domestic aesthetics with commercial robustness
The scheme combines hard-finished wooden worktops with a heavy-duty domestic underframe, delivering the right look and feel without compromising durability. Vision's approach balances everyday usability with reliable performance.
Accessibility & outcome
Stainless-steel rise-and-fall work surfaces were integrated to improve accessibility for wheelchair users. The completed kitchen is aesthetically pleasing and provides a practical, inclusive facility at Eleanor Rathbone House.
