Lu’s Place is a new, contemporary café in Meltham, Holmfirth. The venue includes *The Glasshouse*, an outdoor terrace with panoramic opening windows, a retractable roof, and stunning views of the Holme Valley. Other unique touches include a VIP pod with 360-degree views, bootwash for walkers, cycle parking, dog-friendly facilities, and even equestrian parking.
Vision Commercial Kitchens was introduced to the project by foodservice consultant Tetras Hospitality. We were tasked with delivering a kitchen and bar solution that would support the ambitious offer of this destination café.
Innovative design for a compact space
The kitchen space available at Lu’s Place was extremely tight for the planned menu and covers. Our design team provided innovative solutions to fit all required equipment while ensuring correct flow and efficiency. As the kitchen would be visible from the café seating area, aesthetics were also a key factor: the finished design had to perform flawlessly while complementing the overall look and feel of the space.
Vision’s scope included the full kitchen design and fit out, servery, and whiterock walling, balancing practicality with style in a high-profile environment.
Phased installation and coordination
Installation was delivered in phases, beginning with whiterock walling during the fit-out, followed by equipment and kitchen installation, and finally the front-of-house counter. With multiple trades on site, including lighting, electrics, and flooring, careful coordination was required to maintain the programme and achieve a seamless finish. Attention to detail extended to the exterior ductwork, which was powder-coated to match the building colour and blend in with its surroundings.
Expanding with a dedicated bar
Following the successful opening of Lu’s Place, demand grew rapidly, and Vision was asked to design and supply a separate drinks and bar counter. The bar was positioned against a glazed wall, meaning design had to account for drainage and the visibility of the back-bar area through the glass. This solution provided additional capacity while maintaining the venue’s premium aesthetic.
A unique and successful venue
The finished café is a standout venue that has quickly proven popular with customers. From concept through to completion, the client’s focus was on quality, reflected both in the design of the space and in the food now being served.
