Wolverhampton Civic Hall is a landmark music venue with a history stretching back to 1938. Hosting world-renowned acts from David Bowie and Queen to Take That and Little Mix, it remains an essential cultural hub for the city.

Vision Commercial Kitchens was commissioned by ASM Global to deliver new catering facilities as part of the hall’s renovation, ensuring the venue could meet the needs of its large and varied audiences.

A complex design brief

Vision’s scope covered the design, supply, and installation of the main kitchen, dishwash, nine bar areas, and cellars. The layout had to work across multiple floors while adapting to the restrictions of a listed building.

Design challenges included integrating extraction systems within the protected fabric of the building and accommodating existing goods lift locations. Several layout options were developed before finalising a kitchen space capable of meeting the required service demands.

Installation challenges and solutions

The installation phase was delivered against a demanding programme. When lifts were unavailable, large items of equipment had to be transported manually between floors. Integration of the extraction system also required careful planning to ensure compliance and performance. Weekly site visits and close coordination with contractors, joiners, and the construction team ensured progress remained on track despite these hurdles.

Revitalising a cultural icon

The completed catering facilities have played a vital role in the hall’s reopening, helping to bring new life to an iconic venue. Vision’s work combined technical expertise with determination to deliver a finished product that met operational demands and efficiency standards within the challenging timeframe.
